Right, so I might as well get this out of the way right now. You see how it looks like it was coloured in MS paint? That's because...well, it might as well have been (it was actually in Gimp). I have no sort of digital arts tools, so I sketch the ponies in pencil, scan them in, and then colour them using bucket fill and paint brush. By mouse. If you look closely, you'll probably be able to tell quite easily.
Another thing I should bring up is the time it takes to do these. I'm by no means a real artist. As such, it takes an awful long time to do things, and some things get erased and re-done many, many times. Like, for example, the lifted up leg, and some of the hairs inside the mane. This, along with the painstaking colouring, makes it take an age to do something that, by rights, should look better, from the effort put in.
This took about 8 hours in total (4 sketching, 4 colouring).

Though I'm not entirely uneducated. I use Gimp, but I've used it for a good few years now. I can make decent use of it. At some point I'll be getting a tablet of some description.
